Lower-cost domain purchase and renewal: NameSilo discount plan

The domain name registry recently adjusted the wholesale prices of domains again, leading to price increases for domain registrars including NameSilo. When Naiba first wrote theNameSilo Domain Registration Tutorial, the price for a .com domain seemed to be around $10. In 2023 or sometime, domain prices increased once, making registration about $13. On September 1, 2024, prices rose again, and now registering a .com domain costs $17. Therefore, if purchasing or renewing domains at the original price, NameSilo's prices are no longer advantageous.

To cope with the domain price increase, we have two approaches:

1. Purchase and renew domains at cheaper domain registrars (or transfer your registered domains to other cheaper domain registrars).

2. Join the NameSilo Discount Program.

Naiba transferred some domains to Cloudflare, where the current price for a .com domain is $10.44. For normally launched websites, there might be concerns about potential service interruptions during transfer due to many DNS records and associated services, so some domains are still chosen to be renewed at NameSilo. Therefore, joining their discount program becomes more cost-effective.

From the price list on the NameSilo official website, you can see that after joining the discount program, registering a .com domain costs only $11, which is still acceptable.

The conditions for joining the NameSilo Discount Program are simple: just top up your NameSilo account with a minimum of $50, and then make payments using the account balance. You can join or leave the program at any time.
