Introduction to the three types of lines

Regular lines

These are standard international lines, with domestic transmission carried by China Telecom's 163 backbone network. The provincial, international, and global backbone nodes of the line all start with 202.97, and there are no CN2 nodes starting with 59.43 throughout the entire route. On international lines, they are characterized by congestion and high packet loss rates.

CN2

CN2 stands for China Telecom Next Generation Carrier Network, abbreviated as CNCN, and further abbreviated as CN2.

CN2 is further divided into CN2 GIA and CN2 GT:

  • CN2 GIA: Full name Global Internet Access, is the fastest and lowest-load line connecting mainland China to North America. The GIA line accesses CN2 nodes starting with 59.43 in domestic provincial routing, featuring low load, high quality, fast speed, and high cost.
  • CN2 GT: This is the Global Transit (GIS-Global Internet Service) product within China Telecom's CN2 product line. CN2 GT has its own dedicated line to China's international exit, but still uses the 163 exit when entering the domestic network. Provincial/international nodes start with 202.97 (202.97 nodes are part of China Telecom's 163 backbone network), and there are 2 to 4 CN2 nodes starting with 59.43 in the international backbone nodes.

Understand the difference of CN2 at a glance

Simply put, the differences between the three lines are:

  1. CN2 GIA: If the local backbone has a CN2 network, it directly accesses 59.43 and does not go through 202.97.
  2. CN2 GT: The exit uses 59.43, but domestically it still uses 202.97.
  3. Regular 163 lines use 202.97 throughout the entire route.
